HANOI MOTORBIKE HIRE
At Hidden Vietnam, we specialize in fully guided Vietnam motorcycle tours, with motorbike hire and self-guided rentals available in limited numbers. Because most of our motorcycles are reserved for guided tours, our rental fleet is often fully booked well in advance, especially during the peak riding season. We strongly recommend making your Hanoi motorbike hire booking as soon as your travel dates are confirmed to secure your preferred motorcycle.
One Way Motorbike Rental
At present, we do not offer one-way motorbike rentals. As we operate from a single office in Hanoi, every rental must both start and end in Hanoi.
Many riders ask whether we can deliver or collect motorcycles in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) or other destinations throughout Vietnam. Unfortunately, the answer is “NO”. Our logistics are designed around our Hanoi base, allowing us to maintain our motorcycles to the highest standards and provide reliable support before and after your trip.
Rider Skills Requirement
Your safety is our highest priority. Therefore, we do not rent motorcycles to inexperienced or novice riders. Vietnam’s roads can be challenging, with unpredictable traffic, winding mountain passes, and changing road conditions, making the country unsuitable for learning to ride or testing your motorcycle skills for the first time.
If you plan to hire a 250cc trail bike, such as a Honda CRF250L or similar model, you should ideally be over 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) or have solid experience riding comparable off-road or dual-sport motorcycles. These bikes are taller, more powerful, and better suited to experienced riders tackling Vietnam’s mountain roads and off-road trails.
Our Honda 125cc motorcycles are an excellent choice for riders with less experience, those under 1.75 m, or travellers looking for a more budget-friendly option. Although they offer less power and suspension travel than larger trail bikes, they are lightweight, reliable, fuel-efficient, and easy to handle, making them ideal for many Vietnam motorcycle trips.
Please note that if you reserve a motorcycle by paying a deposit but are unable to ride it safely upon collection, the deposit is non-refundable. We encourage all customers to choose a motorcycle that matches their height, experience, and riding ability to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
Rental Hours
Our Hanoi motorbike rental service is not available 24 hours a day, so please plan your pickup and return times accordingly.
If you collect your motorcycle before 12:00 noon, the full day’s rental fee applies. Please note that rental charges are based on calendar days, not 24-hour periods. For example, if you pick up a motorcycle at midday on the first day and return it at midday the following day, you will be charged for two rental days, not one.
The minimum rental period is 2 (two) days for all motorcycles and scooters.
Our office opening hours are:
- Monday to Saturday: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- Sunday: Closed
Please arrange your travel schedule to match our office hours, as pickups and returns are only available during these times.
Booking
To confirm your motorbike rental in Hanoi, a 50% deposit of the total rental fee is required before you collect your motorcycle, motorbike, or scooter. Your booking is secured only after we receive the deposit.
The remaining 50% balance is payable when you collect your rental vehicle at our Hanoi office.
Please note that all deposits are non-refundable if you cancel your reservation or after you have collected the rented vehicle(s). We therefore recommend confirming your travel plans and rental dates carefully before making a booking.
Choose The Right Bike
Choosing the right motorcycle is one of the most important decisions you can make before starting a Vietnam motorcycle adventure. If you are a beginner or have limited riding experience, we recommend avoiding automatic scooters for long-distance touring. Many automatic, step-through scooters have very sensitive throttle response, no rear foot brake, and light steering, which can make them more difficult to control on winding roads, steep mountain passes, or uneven surfaces.
Instead, consider starting with a 100cc semi-automatic motorcycle. These bikes are easy to ride because they do not require a manual clutch, yet they allow you to change gears using your foot. Learning to shift gears naturally encourages smoother acceleration, better speed control, and increased confidence, making them an excellent choice for riders who are new to motorbike touring in Vietnam. The familiar rear foot brake also feels more intuitive for many riders, especially those transitioning from bicycles.
If you already have some riding experience, don’t be intimidated by manual clutch motorcycles. Most riders become comfortable with the clutch after a short period of practice, and the extra control is well worth the effort. A manual motorcycle offers smoother gear changes, better engine braking, improved handling on steep hills, and greater control on both mountain roads and off-road trails. For longer journeys and more challenging terrain, many experienced riders prefer a manual bike for its versatility and performance.

Motorbike Hire for Hanoi and Short-Distance Trips
For commuting around Hanoi or taking short-distance rides, our fleet of Honda semi-automatic motorcycles offers an excellent combination of reliability, fuel efficiency, and affordability. We provide Honda Wave S, Wave RS, Wave RSX, Wave Alpha, and Honda Blade 110cc models, all manufactured in Vietnam between 2014 and 2018 and maintained in near-new condition.
The monthly rental rate is US$ 50, which includes a maximum mileage allowance of 1,500 km. These motorcycles are designed primarily for city commuting and short trips around Hanoi. Therefore, we do not normally rent this category of motorcycle for long-distance journeys through the Northern mountains or to Southern Vietnam, where unlimited mileage and larger motorcycles are better suited.
We take pride in offering only genuine Honda motorcycles and scooters. Unlike some rental companies, we do not use Chinese copies or imitation brands. When comparing motorbike hire in Hanoi, we recommend considering more than just the rental price. The motorcycle model, year of manufacture, maintenance history, and overall condition all play an important role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable riding experience. Our rental rates remain highly competitive while maintaining some of the highest quality standards available.
Most of our motorcycles come in practical dark colours, including black, red, and grey, which tend to stay cleaner during everyday use. A limited number are available in brighter colours such as white and light blue.
We also offer a selection of comfortable Honda automatic scooters, perfect for commuting in Hanoi and other urban areas.
- Honda Lead 125cc (2014-2018), manufactured in Vietnam – US$ 80/month
- Honda Air Blade 125cc (2014-2018), manufactured in Vietnam – US$ 80/month
- Honda Vision (2013-2018), manufactured in Vietnam – US $60-80/month, depending on the model year
All monthly rentals include a maximum mileage allowance of 1,500 km. These automatic scooters are intended for city riding and short-distance travel. We do not rent them for extended rides through the Northern mountains or for long-distance trips to Southern Vietnam, where larger touring or dual-sport motorcycles are more suitable.
50cc Scooters
Our 50cc scooters are the smallest vehicles in our rental fleet and are intended for customers who do not hold a motorcycle licence or whose licence is not recognised in Vietnam. As these scooters have an engine capacity of under 50cc, they may be a practical option for riders who wish to stay within Vietnam’s licensing regulations. However, it is always the rider’s responsibility to ensure they comply with all applicable local traffic and licensing laws.
While 50cc scooters are convenient for short trips around Hanoi, they are naturally less powerful than larger motorcycles. They are relatively small, have modest acceleration, and are best suited to city commuting rather than long-distance travel or riding in mountainous areas. If your licence allows it, we generally recommend choosing a larger motorcycle for greater comfort, performance, and safety.
Because genuine Honda 50cc scooters are significantly more expensive, we instead offer high-quality models from SYM, one of Taiwan’s longest-established and most respected motorcycle manufacturers. SYM scooters are well known for their reliability, durability, and value, providing excellent performance for everyday urban transportation.
Although 50cc scooter hire represents only a small part of our Hanoi motorbike rental business, we maintain these scooters to the same high standards as the rest of our fleet, ensuring they are clean, dependable, and ready for your journey.
